VistaCraft Partnership - Caban
Introduction VistaCraft Partnership consists of Jonathan Cooke and Tom Parker who are based in the Harlech area. Their product, Caban, is a demountable structure utilising modular design to form a range of shelter configurations. The focus of their design is upon sustainability whilst still aiming to provide a versatile product. Each Caban can be constructed or dismantled by 2 adults in approximately 5 hours. Project Jonathan and Tom came to CAM as they required visual material for promoting their product. Currently only one prototype exists alongside AutoCAD data. CAM’s task was to replicate the Caban structure in SolidWorks ready to produce rendered visuals and/or animations of it in a variety of locations to be used as web/press content etc. As Caban was initially built in AutoCAD, CAM needed to use detailed drawings and VistaCraft’s assistance to rebuild each component needed for the assembly. Photographic evidence aided this process as Caban was built from the ground up virtually into a framework configuration. From this framework a variety of different wall assemblies were able to be added in order to create a bedroom, gazebo or sun room. These could then be connected together producing a walkthrough scenario for an animation to be created - providing a virtual tour of the structure for viewing online. Outcome The rendering process for Caban enabled Jonathan and Tom to quickly preview different coloured configurations of their product in a variety of real world locations. This will assist them in presenting their product to potential investors/customers as the full scale prototype cannot be practically moved from location to location. It also enables them to create new scenes quickly to suit a specific client’s needs.
